Tony Blair Institute for Global Change

TBI supports governments and policymakers to respond to today’s challenges and seize tomorrow’s opportunities.

Their global team works in more than 20 countries across four continents to support leaders with strategy, policy and delivery. From Covid-19 to the war in Ukraine, the tech revolution to the net-zero transition, their experts and thought leaders provide fresh analysis, practical policy solutions and embedded support in response to the world’s biggest challenges – all driven by the progressive vision and insights of Executive Chairman Tony Blair.

The brief:  Each year, the Tony Blair Institute brings together experts from around the world with a passion for technology and public policy to work with their team to produce an original, innovative piece of research. The second class of Associate Fellows – 12 brilliant minds – have focused on the challenge of creating “Future Policy for Future Internet”, exploring ways to help shape the global debate on the policy opportunities and questions presented by the Web 3.0 movement and related trends.

The brief was to create an identity for ‘Tech Policy Associate Fellows Programme’. The look and feel needed to reflect the progressive thinking and ideas and launch the programme with bang on Twitter and LinkedIn. TBI needed to leverage the fellows’ networks and raise awareness of the TBI fellowship as a mark of credibility and authority in the tech policy debate.

My solution: At first I conducted visual research, ‘brain food’ to help in the creative progress which comprised of work similar in themes, looking at trends and expanding research beyond that scope. I created a ‘moodboard’ to inspired the team and help focus our ideas and encourage discussion, debate and direction.

I created a look and feel with an exciting collage style. I wanted to inject a liveliness to the debate by playing around with scale and curious object positioning. The idea was to ‘expect the unexpected’, like an astronaut sunbathing on the moon. I created a ‘quirkiness’ to translate very complex ideas in a simple way. My surreal designs gave the work a sense of ownership. The colours were restrictive to brand all the work together. I created social assets for LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter including simple motion design.
